Mary Lee Davis arrived in Fairbanks in 1917 on the steamer Alaska because her husband John had been assigned by the U.S. Geological Survey to create a mine experiment station in Fairbanks. Mary Davis purchased the famed arts & crafts bungalow built by Lucille McCarthy, now known as the Mary Lee Davis House.
