A 1st edition (Morrow on the title page & spine) of the 7th Donald Lam/Bertha Cool mystery from the early 1940s. Yellow boards with black lettering & decoration. Light darkening to the spine and mild soiling to the front & rear boards, though they still have nice yellow color. A very good copy of an early Cool & Lamb first.
First Printing. Octavo. (19.5cm); yellow cloth-covered boards titled in black on the spine; yellow topstain; 277pp. Light soil to the yellow boards; two spots of rubbing to the fore-edge of the front board, one near crown of spine; spine ends lightly pushed; Very Good, lacking the dustjacket. The 7th Cool and Lam mystery- "This one chiefly laid in New Orleans and pivots on impersonation to assist blackmail. The murders, as well as Donald's jeopardy are done and resolved with a a stroke of the brush- the sign of invention before it yields a formula." BARZUN & TAYLOR 801; HUBIN, p.139.
