Two volumes in maroon cloth with gilt spine lettering, top edges gilt, tissue protected frontis plate in each volume, title pages in red and black, publisher's original printed slipcase. Includes some publisher advertising tucked into the front of the first volume. Spines slightly faded with some wear to the spine heads, minor spots to top of one front cover, otherwise very good with good hinges, tight bindings, very clean pages, no names or other markings. The slipcase is shelfworn and has a chipped and ragged open edge, but structurally sound. Hard Cover. Good/Fair Slipcase. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall.

Snugly bound in original dark green cloth with titles brightly in gilt to cover; spine unlettered as issued. 2nd state with Ball, Black & Co ad on copyright page. Trace rubbing and fray to cloth at corner tips. Prior ownership pendiled to front flyleaf dated May 1, 1871. Tiny mended edge tear to flyleaf top edge. Illustrated with woodcuts from art attributed to Henry Louis Stephens. Bright and attractive copy. VG+

All three volumes are fine unread first printings.

A former library book in library binding with all the expected stamps stickers and markings. Some shelf storage or usage wear present. The binding is tight and all pages are present.
