Hardbound 8vo (8.5 inches tall) 235 pages. Description: Illustrated in black and white by Kurt Wiese. A small group of people, locked in the snows of the North were suddenly caught in the grips of diphtheria and in desperate need of serum. When Mountie Jim Thorne and his dog Silver Chief arrived with the serum, the outpost was saved. In fact, the two seemed to have brought good fortune with them, as caribou arrived and then the foxes. But, then the skins of the fur trappers started to disappear and Silver Chief was blamed! So Jim started an investigation to clear his dog. An investigation that proved to be dangerous. Note: the only printed date is the 1937 copyright renewal; this series circa 1950s. Part of the Famous Dog Stories series for young people. Good condition, DJ poor but in library cover. Stated first, but is Grosset & Dunlap in America, copyright 1937 is John C. Winston Company, Great Britain. Assumed printing 1940s. Tan "tweed" boards with the Famous Dog Stories logo on the right bottom, indicative of early 1940s printing & binding, rather than the later 1945 binding that had a dog on the cover board. A really good copy, tight bending, pages have some yellow to them from age. A great addition to one of the 1930s-40s YA book series collectibles. Super nice reprint hardcover in navy blue cloth covered boards dated 1937 on verso title page, but below that is the following number code: L 647. Possible reprint? Book has no names, tears or soil inside. Head of 235pp text is dyed green. Navy blue cloth covered boards with bright silver titles and illustration of sled dogs on frt board. Tips sharp showing color loss only, no rub-through. Vivid, uncreased blue/white illustrated endpapers show a team of dogs pulling a sled through a snowstorm. Original, price-clipped, color illustrated dj in new mylar shows several short closed tears, color loss and small chips at tips, triangular chips on frt and rear panels, plus a 1/2" x 1" chip at head of spine that took the top half of the S in Silver with it, small chip at foot of white background rear dj panel foot that shows a b/w photo of the author in a fur coat, ready for adventure.
