This First Edition-First Printing of the book about Patti Smith's life with Robert Mapplethorpe is beautifully signed by the legendary performer in black pen on the title page. The book was signed at Book Soup in Hollywood on January 28, 2010. The jacket has SIGNED @ BOOK SOUP sticker on the front.

First edition, second printing July 1976, SIGNED by Patti Smith on the front cover. Pale green covers, text printed in black and green. Tiny neat previous owner's name to base of half title, no other markings, light soiling to covers. Uncommon especially so signed.

Printed on inexpensive newsprint type paper and measuring 11 1/4 x 16 1/2" tall. These four issues all contain extensions of Cantos of Ezra Pound by a wide variety of poets and artists including Corso, Buckminster Fuller, John Cage, James Lee Byars, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Creeley and others. Also these issues includes writings, photographs, interviews and more with Charles Henri Ford, W. S. Burroughs, Ira Cohen, Patti Smith et al. Other than toning to the paperstock which is normal for these issues, they are in fine condition. Special lavender clothbound edition printed in silver provided directly by the publisher in presumably very small quantities. This copy comes with the original mailing envelope from the publisher SIGNED by Michael Andre in 1995 and sent to poet Jackson Mac Low.

Size: 6x1x9; First edition stated; full number line. Inscribed by Smith to former owner on half title page, in metallic gold felt pen: "To Janet" (see photo). Medium bumping to tail of spine, light bump to head, mild softening to leading edge corners of boards, with corresponding wear to dust jacket. Lower leading edges of dust jacket on verso show approx. 1" x 0.25" area of light color transfer from purple boards. Boards otherwise clean. Pages are clean, crisp, securely bound.

This book is hard-bound in burgundy covers with a black leather spine, with light gray stamping to the upper cover and spine, with a pictorial paste-down on the upper cover. There is some very light rubbing to the edges of the spine-ends, as well as somne light wear to the very top and bottom of the joints, but with the covers in otherwise excellent condition. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and clean with 250, black & white photo illustrations throughout. This book is signed/inscribed by the author/artist Patti Smith on the title-page. Laid-in at the front of the book is a folded booklet/pamphlet titled, "Patti Smith, A Pythagorean Traveler. An Evening of Words and Song, January 11, 2007," which is signed by Patti Smith on the inside. Also included with the book is the padded, mailing envelope which was used to ship the book between the collector and the author/artist (The envelope is torn open, but added for provenance.) - From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu (1945-2019) of Columbus, Ohio - known to many of his bookseller, author, and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired, including Gorey, Sendak, Heaney, Byatt, Morrison, Updike and many more.
