Paris, France: Fondation Cartier pour l'art Contemporain. Very Good. 2008. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. This book is hard-bound in burgundy covers with a black leather spine, with light gray stamping to the upper cover and spine, with a pictorial paste-down on the upper cover. There is some very light rubbing to the edges of the spine-ends, as well as somne light wear to the very top and bottom of the joints, but with the covers in otherwise excellent condition. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and clean with 250, black & white photo illustrations throughout. This book is signed/inscribed by the author/artist Patti Smith on the title-page. Laid-in at the front of the book is a folded booklet/pamphlet titled, "Patti Smith, A Pythagorean Traveler. An Evening of Words and Song, January 11, 2007," which is signed by Patti Smith on the inside. Also included with the book is the padded, mailing envelope which was used to ship the book between the collector and the author/artist (The envelope is torn open, but added for provenance.) - From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu (1945-2019) of Columbus, Ohio - known to many of his bookseller, author, and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired, including Gorey, Sendak, Heaney, Byatt, Morrison, Updike and many more. Joseph Heller once wrote to Tubby in response to one more "please sign and return" request: "This is turning out to be a hell of a lot of work!" Born in Detroit, Lynn Goldsmith has worked variously as a band manager, musician, film director, and conceptual artist, although she is best known today for her portrait photographs of twentieth century rock musicians. 4.5 x 7 inches. This image was used on the cover of her 1988 Dream of Life album. The photo image measures 12 1/4" square. Condition is only good with light creases and wear to the stiff paper employed. SIGNED by Patti beneath the image. Despite the less than stellar condition it would look quite handsome framed.

Not dated, but look to be from the early 80's. Both photographs are in near fine condition, are stamped by noted punk rock photo-documentarian David Arnoff on the verso and measure 7 3/4 x 9 3/4.

The 1976 1st French edition, SIGNED BY BOTH PATTI SMITH AND TOM VERLAINE at the rear (across the photo --the negative-- taken of them by M. Esteban). Crisp and very presentable in its stapled, pictorial wrappers, with very light wear along the spine and a touch of light rubbing to the front panel. A dual text, with the English version at each verso and the French counterpart to each facing recto. A tall, thin quarto, containing 22 poems all told.
