Printed on inexpensive newsprint type paper and measuring 11 1/4 x 16 1/2" tall. These four issues all contain extensions of Cantos of Ezra Pound by a wide variety of poets and artists including Corso, Buckminster Fuller, John Cage, James Lee Byars, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Creeley and others. Also these issues includes writings, photographs, interviews and more with Charles Henri Ford, W. S. Burroughs, Ira Cohen, Patti Smith et al. Other than toning to the paperstock which is normal for these issues, they are in fine condition. Special lavender clothbound edition printed in silver provided directly by the publisher in presumably very small quantities. This copy comes with the original mailing envelope from the publisher SIGNED by Michael Andre in 1995 and sent to poet Jackson Mac Low.

This book is hard-bound in burgundy covers with a black leather spine, with light gray stamping to the upper cover and spine, with a pictorial paste-down on the upper cover. There is some very light rubbing to the edges of the spine-ends, as well as somne light wear to the very top and bottom of the joints, but with the covers in otherwise excellent condition. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and clean with 250, black & white photo illustrations throughout. This book is signed/inscribed by the author/artist Patti Smith on the title-page. Laid-in at the front of the book is a folded booklet/pamphlet titled, "Patti Smith, A Pythagorean Traveler. An Evening of Words and Song, January 11, 2007," which is signed by Patti Smith on the inside. Also included with the book is the padded, mailing envelope which was used to ship the book between the collector and the author/artist (The envelope is torn open, but added for provenance.) - From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu (1945-2019) of Columbus, Ohio - known to many of his bookseller, author, and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired, including Gorey, Sendak, Heaney, Byatt, Morrison, Updike and many more. Joseph Heller once wrote to Tubby in response to one more "please sign and return" request: "This is turning out to be a hell of a lot of work!" The record was produced by Lenny Kaye for Robert Mapplethorpe and was originally recorded on June 5, 1974 on Mer Records 601.

A program for an evening of poetry and music celebrating the anniversary of the death of poet Arthur Rimbaud. Includes a list of poems by Smith as well as one by Kurt Weil and one by Hank Ballard. Smith's name is not mentioned in this program, but she refers to this event in her memoir Just Kids as having taken place in 1973 in New York on the rooftop of Le Jardin in the Hotel Diplomat off Times Square. One of Patti's earliest performances.

[New York]: n.p. [Gotham Book Mart?], 1973. First edition. Near fine.. Scarce original program from one of Smith's earliest gigs, predating her first album by almost two years. This, the first of three performances in honor of the anniversary of Arthur Rimbaud's death (also known as "Rock-N-Rimbaud"), took place on the roof of Le Jardin, a gay disco, in the Hotel Diplomat on November 4th, 1973. Smith sung and recited her own works, as well as songs by Kurt Weil and Hank Ballard. She was backed by Bill Elliot on piano and future Patti Smith Group member Lenny Kaye (both listed in program) on guitar. This would be only the second time Smith and Kaye performed together (the first being when the two opened for a Gerald Malanga reading at the Poetry Project almost two years earlier) and the first time Smith headlined a show with Kaye at her side. The program also thanks both Robert Mapplethorpe (just a few months after his first solo exhibition) and Sam Wagstaff, certainly one of their earliest links in print. A landmark event, one which sowed the seeds of not only of Smith's band and the burgeoning New York punk scene, but inspired by Smith's most important influence. 14'' x 8.5''. Single pale blue leaf, printed recto only. Xerographically reproduced. Line drawing of Rimbaud by Smith to top of sheet above text, which lists of the program of events, and a quote from Rimbaud (in part: "The Poet makes himself a seer by long, gigantic, and rational derangement of the senses..."). Also mentions "special appreciation to The Wartoke Concern, Robert Mapplethorpe, Dennis Florio, Sharon Ensko, Sam Wagstaff and Gotham Book Mart." Two faint shallow creases. Else bright, sharp, clean.
