(New York): Ecco, 2010. First printing. Near fine in near fine jacket.. Signed first edition, review copy, of Smith's National Book Award-winning memoir of her intimate friendship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe — inscribed to the longtime Strand Bookstore rare book room manager Craig Anderson. During the time covered by this acclaimed and best-selling memoir, Smith did all manner of jobs to make ends meet while working to develop her artistic voice. And she found steady work at bookshops, including Scribner's, the Gotham Book Mart, and at The Strand — additionally supplementing her income by scouting rare books. Her relationship with Anderson began in the late 1960s, and her relationship to The Strand in particular was important. It was there she gave a rooftop reading to celebrate the release of her first collection of poems, SEVENTH HEAVEN. An evocative association, tying together to her creative life and the book world of NYC. The first genuine and significant association copy of this finely-crafted portrait of 1970s bohemian New York we've encountered. 9'' x 5.75''. Original publisher's blindstamped purple cloth, silver-lettered spine. Original unclipped ($27.00) photographic dust jacket designed by Allison Saltzman. Photos of Smith and Mapplethorpe in text and at rear. XII, 279, [1], [12] pages. Inscribed by Smith on title page: "March, 2011 / To Craig / Patti Smith." Ecco press release and promotional materials loosely laid in. Spine ends gently nudged, tiny spot of dust-soil to lower edge of textblock. Else bright, clean, and sharp.

New York: Gotham Book Mart, 1973. Broadside. Fine. An all-but-pristine copy of this early, original Patti Smith broadside, issued by New York's legendary Gotham Book Mart in 1973. #36 OF ONLY 50 NUMBERED COPIES SIGNED BY PATTI SMITH (within a larger limitation of 300 copies, the remaining 250 unsigned). A single sheet (printed on only one side), consisting of thick, light-blue rag paper, measuring 8 1/2" x 12". First edition, first and only printing. Limited edition of 50 numbered copies (this being #1/50), signed by Davis, in a deluxe clamshell box, with an original 10-1/2 x 10-1/2 inch toned gelatin silver print "Meroe, Sudan, 1988" (print edition of 50 also numbered and signed in black ink by Davis on verso). Hardcover. Cloth, no dust jacket as issued (for Limited Edition). Photographs by Lynn Davis. Edited by David Whitney. Texts by Patti Smith and Rudolph Wurlitzer. 136 pp. with 60 four-color plates. 11-1/2 x 10-1/2 inches. New in publisher's original packaging (book, print and clamshell box all in flawless, pristine condition). From the publisher: "Over the years, Lynn Davis has become widely celebrated for her large-scale photographs of "monuments" of the human and natural landscape. Her forthcoming monograph, Monument, presents images made in Egypt, Australia, Cambodia, Burma, Thailand, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Yemen, Lebanon, Greenland, and the United States. Whether depicting the ancient pyramids of Giza, the temples of Cambodia, or the icebergs of Greenland, Davis articulates both the omnipotent forces of nature and the most resolute building endeavors ever undertaken by man. Davis's aesthetic is cool and refined, her sparse composition and controlled modeling of light evoke solitude and contemplation." Signed by Author.
