A short memoir of Smith's younger days as a twenty-something on Greenwich Village's famous MacDougal Street. Published by Hanuman Books as a paperback original twenty years earlier, with a very small distribution, this is a revamped hardcover edition, with additional writing omitted from the first printing, supplemented with new photographs and illustrations. Flawless copy, new in dw and SIGNED by Smith on the title page. Uncommon in spite of its recent vintage!

Nantucket, Massachusetts: Unpublished, 1976. Photograph of rock and roll Hall of Fame member Patti Smith with her youngest sister, Kimberly.  The photo was taken by Lynn Goldsmith (her stamp on the verso) when Kimberly was a roadie for her big sister.  One of the songs on Patti's album "Horses" is titled "Kimberly" and is about her young sister. The photo is signed by both Patti and Kimberly without inscription.  The image is in excellent condition, though there are a couple of tiny dings in the white margin.  Provenance: from the collection of Kimberly Smith, from her home in Richmond, Virginia.. Paris, France: Fondation Cartier pour l'art Contemporain. Very Good. 2008. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. This book is hard-bound in burgundy covers with a black leather spine, with light gray stamping to the upper cover and spine, with a pictorial paste-down on the upper cover. There is some very light rubbing to the edges of the spine-ends, as well as somne light wear to the very top and bottom of the joints, but with the covers in otherwise excellent condition. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and clean with 250, black & white photo illustrations throughout. This book is signed/inscribed by the author/artist Patti Smith on the title-page. Laid-in at the front of the book is a folded booklet/pamphlet titled, "Patti Smith, A Pythagorean Traveler. An Evening of Words and Song, January 11, 2007," which is signed by Patti Smith on the inside. Also included with the book is the padded, mailing envelope which was used to ship the book between the collector and the author/artist (The envelope is torn open, but added for provenance.) - From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu (1945-2019) of Columbus, Ohio - known to many of his bookseller, author, and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired, including Gorey, Sendak, Heaney, Byatt, Morrison, Updike and many more. Joseph Heller once wrote to Tubby in response to one more "please sign and return" request: "This is turning out to be a hell of a lot of work!" All signed books unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Many of the books are inscribed to both Cuthbert and his great friend of more than two decades Antonia Gale Moss. ; Signed by Author .

The 1976 1st French edition, SIGNED BY BOTH PATTI SMITH AND TOM VERLAINE at the rear (across the photo --the negative-- taken of them by M. Esteban). Crisp and very presentable in its stapled, pictorial wrappers, with very light wear along the spine and a touch of light rubbing to the front panel. A dual text, with the English version at each verso and the French counterpart to each facing recto. A tall, thin quarto, containing 22 poems all told.

An all-but-pristine copy of this early, original Patti Smith broadside, issued by New York's legendary Gotham Book Mart in 1973. #36 OF ONLY 50 NUMBERED COPIES SIGNED BY PATTI SMITH (within a larger limitation of 300 copies, the remaining 250 unsigned). A single sheet (printed on only one side), consisting of thick, light-blue rag paper, measuring 8 1/2" x 12". (Ironically, given the connection to The Gotham Book Mart, this was written just before, as legend has it, Patti's 1974 short stint working in the bowels of The Strand).
