Blue pictorial boards, linen reinforced hinges as issued (minor shelfwear, slight scuffing), w/ d.j. cover art of children meeting at the Garden Gate (minor shelfwear, light rubbing), VG/VG copy. Later printing of this charming copy of the wonderful poetry anthology by Stevenson, featuring the beautiful illustrations by Eulalie. The artist, Eulalie (b. 1895), was a tremendously successful children's book artist who is perhaps best remembered for her Little Black Sambo, this Stevenson's Child's Garden of Verses, and of course her wonderful Bumper Book for Watty Piper. About the time she created the illustrations for this work, she also was painting murals for Ann Harding, Harold Lloyd, and Charlie Chaplin, and was beloved for her murals in the old Santa Monica Library Boys and Girls Room. Hardcover book. No dust jacket. Cover is in good condition, authors name is faded, a small amount of chipping, rubbing, and wear to the cover, especially at the spine. A small amount of bumping of the board's tips. Dedication/inscription on the inside flyleaf. Pages show only the slightest amount of discoloration due to age and are clean, crisp and are in very good condition. The outside of the body pages has been dyed green on all three sides. Overall, this book is in very good to near fine condition.

Edge rubbed, with just a hint of fraying at spine ends and corners. 11 full color plates and many pen and ink illustrations by Eulalie. Binding overextended ever-so-slightly at "Picture-books in Winter" and "Rain" (near center of binding). Boards lightly rubbing and soiled.
