Contains all of the 1176 hand-coloured orchid plates published between the years 1787 and 1948 in Curtis's Botanical Magazine, the oldest surviving botanical magazine in the world. Attractive calligraphic bookplate of Victoria Burbidge (and husband Brinsley) botanist, both at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens and at Kew, also Denver Botanic Garden. For many years she edited Curtis' Botanical Magazine. She was also Clematis registrar for the Royal Horticultural Society. She was also known as Vicky Matthews. Signed presentation from the author on the front endpaper to Victoria Burbidge, "with my best wishes, Samuel Sprunger."
