Fairbanks (1909-2000) was an iconic American actor from Hollywood’s Golden Era (his credits include “Gunga Din”), and a highly decorated naval officer of World War II. He is mentioned on page 92 of this political history, where it is revealed that a paper he wrote while a lieutenant attached to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, on the problem of defeating Japan, was influential to Eugene Dooman, and that it became the preface to the Potsdam Declaration.
