Introduction on first page written and signed by Colonel "Paul W. Tibbets". Across from Tibbets signature Navigator Theodore Van Kirk writes entirely in his own hand: "It was an easy mission because everything went according to plan...The major concerns about the mission were 1. would the bomb work 2. getting away from the blast . Remember this had never been done before and it was a great unknown. When the bomb exploded there was a sense of relief - it had worked. It didn't destroy the airplane. When we looked at the city of Hiroshima it was covered by a cloud of smoke and dust topped by the large mushroom cloud going up to 42,000 ft."
