New York, NY: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1987. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. The chance discovery of a ship buried underground for millions of years transforms the inhabitants of a New England town into one evil, homicidal entity. First edition, second state, with a full 1 through 10 number line but without the "permissions to come" statement printed beneath as a true first printing would have. This copy features the author's name in gold, though it should be noted that both the red and the gold versions are equally desirable. The book itself is exceptionally clean with no writing, marks, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Not an ex-library copy. Spine is tight and crisp. Corners are square, and the boards are flat and true with only very minor edge wear and some bumping to the lower spine. Dust jacket is not price-clipped but does have some flaws including a 1/4" tear along the upper edge of the front cover, a 1/2" tear to the lower edge of the back cover, some browning to the flaps, and some general scuffing and edge wear. The inside of the jacket is also a bit soiled along the upper and lower spine extremes. The lettering on the front cover, which can be quite worn on these books, shows moderate to severe rubbing on the majority of the letters. This collectible, near fine/very good, first edition/second printing copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover. Satisfaction guaranteed!
