New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1860. Pinkish cloth with gilt decoration to boards and spine; black lettering to spine. Gilt to all edges. Spine faded, with some wear to the cloth at the head and heel. Some silverfish mottling to the front board. The middle signature is starting though the binding is sound; there is the occasional stain on a page, and there are three ownership signatures and a date to the volume title-page. There is a black and white engraved frontispiece with tissue guard, under... which a clipped signature (date unknown) by Washington Irving has been fixed. There is also a letter from a scholar at the University of Toronto confirming the authenticity of the signature, laid in.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Cloth. Good +/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.more

Stated as "Authpr's Revised Edition" on title page., This copy bears the signature of Washington Irving on a small piece of paper which is affixed to the front pastedown. The signature is followed by the printed word "President" and was therefore likely taken from a document from the Astor Library, forerunner to the... New York Public Library,where Irving was appointed as first chairman in John Jacob Astor's will on his death in 1848. .more
