Barry O'Meara was an Irish surgeon who accompanied Napoleon to St Helena for his exile, Â He became his physician on board the Bellerophon when the emperor surrendered himself. His book records Napoleon's opinions and reflections on his life and work while in exile. Complete in two volumes. Â Following the publication of this work, Sir Hudson Lowe, Governor of St. Helena, was charged with mistreating the former emperor. Â Illustrated with a frontispiece and portrait of Napoleon to vol. I, and a frontispiece to vol. II. In half calf binding over marbled boards. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, rubbed to boards and spine. Front free endpaper vol I loose but present, inscribed with previous ownership ink inscription, undated. Captain Eminson's inscription to title page and first leaf of text. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting to occasional leaf, otherwise pages generally very clean throughout. Very Good.
