by Thomas C. Ryan; Carson McCullers (source)
The Landau Company. Softcover/Paperback. Near Fine. [New York]: The Landau Company, 1963. Vintage original film script, 11 x 8 1/2" (28 x 22 cm.), leatherette wrappers, brad bound, mimeograph, 127 pp. Wrappers creased, with small loss at bottom of spine and in two extremities of back wrapper. A name is written at top of title page of a James D. Pasternak, who is not a credited crew member. The screenplay by Thomas C. Ryan is dated 8/26/63. Internally near fine, a few pages show very slight marginal handling, wrappers very good. A very early draft for this classic 1968 film, adapted from Carson McCullers' 1940 debut novel. As with the underlying book, this is a film about alienation, racism and misery in a small Southern town. Star Alan Arkin and supporting actress Sondra Locke received Oscar nominations.
