Minor edge-wear. Gift inscription dated 1945 to ffep. Pages lightly tanned but very good. A little foxing to page edges. All 4 illustrations in very good order.
154 pp, 7 1/2" H. No date, but probably c1940 with the 'wartime' paper of that era. Medium green boards with black lettering on spine and front board, dust jacket with pastedown illustration. 4 colour plates (including frontispiece) - all present. A charming collection of stories and poems by the New Zealand author and educator, mixing fairy fantasy with tales of the natural world. Contents include: The Sun-Man's Babies; The Snowdrop Baby; The Apple Fairy; Daffodils; May Fairies; Billybuzz the Drone; Spinny Spider; The Mosquito Babies; Sally Snail's Wanderings; Milly Mushroom; The Leaf Fairies; Bunny-Boy; The Hill Princess; Urchins in the Sea; Wher White Waves Play; Fanny Fly; The Wheat People; The Disobedient Sunbeams; A Trip into the Country; The Season Fairies; etc., etc. Light browning to pages and endpapers, light edge wear at corners and top/bottom of spine, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, moderate browning to edges of text block, small bump at top corner of both boards, tiny dent on front board. Dust jacket has a few small chips - mainly at top of spine and top of front flap fold, closed irregular tear on spine, spine/flap folds are slightly darkened, some foxing on rear panel, light edge wear/wrinkling and one or two small edge tears, protected in a mylar sleeve.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1911 reprint of 1910 First Edition, with four, full plate, illustrations in colour by Frank Watkins. Boards are clean with minimal corner bumping. Spine a little faded still with bright, gilt titles and motif. Foxing to prelims and occasional throughout, though all plates are clean and bright. Tissue guard before title page still present. A good+, sound copy of this quite scarce, very early edition.
