The copy presented here is a first UK paperback edition, 24th printing of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone signed and inscribed by Jo in early 1999 'To Sam.' By this time Rowling had dispensed with using periods between J and K and had developed a more fluid signature allowing her to sign more books quickly in order to meet demand. Around this time Rowling was conducting many signing events at bookstores such as Waterstones and, because the Harry Potter Phenomenon had not yet taken off, she had more time to interact with fans and inscribe copies of books. This is an excellent near fine copy completely unread and with no colour fading, no creasing at all to the spine which is incredibly rare for this book. The page edges appear surprisingly fresh as these paperback copies are more often found with significant toning to the page edges due to the cheap paper stock used. The book still has a square and tight binding, some shelf wear to the edges and some minor creasing to the top left corner of the back cover. Internally, there are no ownership inscriptions or writing of any kind with no dog eared pages, folds or creases to any of the pages. The only minor flaw to the pages is some tiny spots of ink to the top right corners of the first few preliminary pages. Overall this is a fantastic copy with a beautiful bold signature inscribed 'To Sam.' The signature is a very early and highly collectable example of the author's signature with the periods still present after the 'J' and the 'K'; as the author speeded up her signature, the periods were gone by mid to late 1998. Being a much-used school book, the book has lost its laminate and has creases to the covers, particularly the front cover; the spine is sunned, with small splits to the spine foot. Page 9 has a small closed edge tear and light green ink marks to the page. The remaining pages are toned, but in good condition. Inside the front cover of the book is a 'Children's Book Award Tester' sticker - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone won the award in 1998. Name in pencil to top of half-title page 'Plymstock'.

This is an authentic inscribed copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen to the dedication page. The original recipient, Caroline, was an employee at Waterstones, Reading, when J.K. Rowling visited to read to children from local primary schools and was responsible for looking after the authors who visited. This is one of a number of such events Rowling took part in before the phenomenon of Harry Potter really took off in 1999. Following the reading J.K. Rowling answered questions from the children and signed copies of her books. This is the book which she signed for Caroline who kept it for over 25 years before she sold it in May 2024. This copy is in extremely fine condition with no fading or creasing at all to the spine, and with an incredibly tight and square binding. It is clearly unread and in near perfect condition with no colour fading and no creases at all to the spine, a stunning example of a paperback book. Internally there are no inscriptions or writing of any kind with no dog eared pages, folds or creases. It has clearly been very well looked after and comes housed in a custom made quarter leather clamshell box with bespoke gold lettering to the spine. Dust cover provided and has a clear mylar jacket for protection, the spine on the dust jacket is slightly faded.

Lily was the daughter of illustrator, Ian Beck, at the Hay Literary Festival. Ian knew the publicity and editorial team at Bloomsbury who introduced him to J.K. Rowling who was happy to inscribe this book for his daughter. This is a beautiful copy completely unread, with no colour fading at all to the spine. The page edges are surprising white and fresh which is incredibly rare for this book. They are often found with significant toning  due to the cheap paper stock used. The books presented here are two later printings of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (43rd printing) and Chamber of Secrets (22nd printing) and a first printing of Prisoner of Azkaban. Each book is signed and inscribed 'To Hamish' who was the son of J.K. Rowling's neighbour when she was living in Abbotsford Park, Edinburgh. These are all 2000 variations of Rowling's signature and were all signed together for Hamish when he was eight years old. He kept the books for 24 years before deciding to sell them in 2024. All three books are in beautiful condition except for clear fading to the spines. Apart from that they are all in fine condition, unread with a tight and square binding and no clear creasing to the spines which is exceptionally rare for paperback books. There are no major creases or bowing at all to the front or back covers but there is the slightest bit of fading of the blue to the top left of the front cover of the second book only. Internally, there is very mild toning to the page edges, as always and is to be expected but no where near as is with most paperback copies. There are no ownership inscriptions or marks of any kind, no dog eared pages, tears or creases at all. Overall these books are in exceptional condition aside from the spine fading.
